Tips on Caring For Your Jewellery

Caring for your jewellery requires both smartness and finesse. Different kinds of jewellery require different type of attention. You are not going to clean your pearl jewellery in the same way you clean your metals and gemstones. As such, learn a few tips on how to clean and care for your silver and stone studded jewellery so that they last longer and make you look good each time you decide to sport one.

Cleaning the Jewellery

Beer- Silver jewellery without any gemstones can be cleaned to perfection with beer. Pour beer on a piece of cotton or a soft cloth and rub gently over the piece of jewellery. Then dry it with another clean and dry piece of cloth to bring back the shine.

Vinegar- Mix half a cup of white vinegar with two tablespoons of baking soda until you notice a bubbling reaction. Put your jewellery in this solution and leave them for two to three hours. After you remove them from the solution, wash them thoroughly under running water to remove any residue of the solution. Let it dry and there you have a clean, as good as new piece of jewellery polished all by yourself.

Club soda- This one cleans both silver and stone studded jewellery. All you have to do is place your jewellery in a bowl of glass of club soda. Leave them overnight. You’ll be dazzled by the results when you take them out next morning.

Vodka- Vodka cleans your stone studded and silver jewelleries like magic. Just use a clean napkin immersed in vodka to wipe the dirt and grime off your jewels and make them sparkle again.

Maintaining and Storing Your Jewellery

Silver and stone studded jewellery should never be stored in the open or kept with other metals. Delicate pieces like tikas and trinkets should be stored in little zippered plastic bags which will not only keep them in good condition but prevent the other jewellery from rubbing against them and causing scratches. Keeping them away from direct contact with air will also avoid their discoloration.

Taking care of your jewellery is more important than you think. When you invest in a certain piece, you would actually want them to last long. Taking proper care and paying attention will increase the lifespan of your jewellery and also make them look good each time you take one out to wear.
